Give your child a fun and structured next step in their Weiqi journey with the Singapore Weiqi Association’s September Fundamental Class. Designed for primary and secondary school students who have either completed the Holiday Fundamental Class or have some foundation in weiqi, this eight-lesson programme builds on the essentials with more advanced concepts in one hour each week, guided by experienced 5-dan instructors.

Prerequisite: Students should have completed the Holiday Fundamental Class or have a basic understanding of Weiqi (rules, capturing, liberties, basic life-and-death).

Class Options

  • F6: Sundays, 11:00–12:00 — Instructor: House Chuah, 5 Dan

  • F7: Sundays, 16:30–17:30 — Instructor: Wang Jing, 5 Dan

The course fee is S$300, with limited places available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students receive one month of complimentary access to the Jiayi Online Weiqi Platform. After completing the course and passing the assessment, students may progress to the Semester Fundamental Class and enjoy an exclusive S$30 enrolment discount.

  • Lesson 4: Two-Party and Three-Party “Mutual-Live” (Seki)

  • Lesson 5: Rolling Capture and Ladder Capture

  • Lesson 6: Ways of Reducing and Consolidating Territory

  • Lesson 7: Basic Principles in Capture Race (Damezumari, Liberty Counting)

  • Lesson 8: Capture and Recapture in Repeating Patterns (Ko and Related Shapes)
